In her character profile, My Hero Academia mangaka Horikoshi Kohei confirmed that the color of Mina’s skin was influenced by her Acid Quirk’s unique properties. Her Ultimate Move Acidman gives a general power-up to Mina’s already respectable physical strength and gives her an ultimate defense for a short while. This allows her to use her Quirk for a variety of super moves, including skating on acid secreted from the bottoms of her feet and creating a temporary shield of acid to instantly vaporize incoming projectiles. Mina can control not only its acidity but its consistency and thickness. It allows her to create acids of various corrosive levels within her body and secrete them from any part of it she wants to. Had it not been for Kirishima Ejiro’s impeccably timed rescue, Mina may have become yet another casualty of the already bloody war. Unfortunately, the same strategy can backfire, such as during the Paranormal Liberation War when Gigantomachia almost got his revenge. This trait is invaluable in situations like when she diverted Gigantomachia’s attention from two young girls. Maybe it’s because Mina has such faith in her abilities, but she has a tendency to rush headlong into danger without fully considering the situation or potential consequences. The acid is harmless to Mina but reactive to everything else it touches while protecting her from threats as fierce as Toya Todoroki’s flames. Most recently, she’s learned a super move to cloak her entire body in a protective veil of acid. She’s naturally adept at using her Quirk to create motion that enhances the force of her hits, and even from long range, Mina’s opponents aren’t safe from her acid attacks. As a dancer, the outgoing Mina is naturally athletic and scored higher than a fair amount of the boys in Class 1-A’s first Quirk assessment test.
